I set out on the Cold River this morning committing to fishing dry flies and not resort to the old standbys of wooly bugger and muddler. Fortunately for me a caddis hatch had occurred recently as evidenced by the exoskeletons littering the stream-side rocks. Trout aggressively took an elk hair caddis fished at a dead drift, drifted just below the surface and pulled through the water intermittently. Eight fish came to hand on a stretch of river in Alstead, NH. In addition to the caddis, there were many large stonefly castings and leadwing coachman mayflies were also coming off.
May you all Match the hatch, Mitch
